[A Reflection on the “Survival Baseline” and “Professional Licensing” | CEO Yang]
“If I don’t do it, someone else will.”
This sentence
is probably the most common,
and most dangerous, kind of self-consolation in business.
Many people, when choosing a business or a job,
have only one criterion:
does it make money.
As long as it makes money,
gray areas can be touched,
things that harm others to benefit oneself can be done,
and in the end “it’s the big environment” is used to shed responsibility.
But in my realist experience,
if you don’t even have a baseline for making money,
then you are not running a business;
you are overdrawing your future in advance.
In this video,
I want to talk about what I regard as a true
“professional-licence-grade” management system — the Noble Eightfold Path.
It is not moral preaching,
but an extremely calm, highly demanding
mechanism of self-management and risk control.
In a world of AI, heavy capitalization and fast arbitrage,
what lets you go the distance
has never been boldness,
but knowing which money you “should not earn.”
In the video, I translate the Buddhist Noble Eightfold Path
into management language that modern business leaders can understand:
• Right View × Right Thought
This is the foundation of a company’s values.
We don’t only ask “will it make money,”
we also ask —
does this money accumulate blessing, or misfortune?
• Right Speech × Right Action
This is the source of a leader’s credibility.
Keep your word, and the business has resilience;
keep the business above board, and the team has a sense of security.
• Right Livelihood
This is the minimum baseline of survival.
Not all money that can be earned is worth bearing the consequences for a lifetime.
Only by holding this line can you be called professional.
• Right Effort × Right Mindfulness × Right Concentration
This is the core engine of self-growth.
Buddhism is not about making you retreat,
but about letting you stay focused and clear-headed
amid chaos and temptation.
I share this video
because in this over-accelerated era
many people really have made money
but are slowly ruining themselves
and losing the thing that is hardest to get back — trust.
In my view,
the Noble Eightfold Path is in fact a “certificate of qualification” for life.
Those who hold this licence
don’t necessarily earn the fastest,
but they will certainly go the farthest and stand the steadiest.
If you too are thinking —
besides profit,
what “right track” is worth holding on to for a lifetime,
then these 2 minutes
will give you a very sober, very realistic answer.
📌 The Noble Eightfold Path is not an ideal but survivability
📌 Being able to make money without ruining others is the real skill
